Everything You Need to Know to Get Started!
Whether you’re new to Pilates or a seasoned practitioner, we’re here to make your journey smooth and enjoyable. Here are a few quick answers to help you get the most out of your experience at The Studio.
Where exactly are you located?
We currently have three locations!✨✨✨
The Studio Tacoma is located at 1736 Pacific Ave, near the UW Tacoma campus and directly across the street from Tacoma Union Station.
The Studio Gig Harbor is located at 5125 Olympic Drive, Ste 110, behind Heritage Bank.
and The Studio University Place is located at 3633 Marketplace W in the Village at Chambers Bay. We are between Serenity Spa and Urban Float.
We do our best to start classes promptly at the start time, so please be advised the door will be locked once we begin, and arriving more than 5 minutes late will result in a late cancellation.
Where should I park?
For The Studio Tacoma, there is paid parking directly out front of The Studio (free on Sundays, holidays, + before 8am!) Pay at the meter, or download the Flowbird app for an easy no-touch option. It is $1.00 for 60 minutes (which will be enough time as classes are 50 minutes long). Some paid spaces downtown are pay til 6pm and some are pay til 8pm, so please be sure to keep an eye on which type you’re in to avoid a ticket.
Free parking can also be found on Market Street (on the other side of UWT) and in the areas surrounding campus. Just be sure to give yourself a few extra minutes, as it’s then an easy walk to our space. Perfect opportunity for a pre-class warmup, and time to center yourself before your session.
The Studio Gig Harbor and The Studio University Place have free parking lots for your use. :)
Do I need to do a Private session first?
Private sessions aren’t required for new clients, but they’re a great option if you’re managing a physical condition (like chronic pain or a recent injury), have been inactive for a while, or are pregnant/recently postpartum. In a private session, we’ll assess your body’s needs, move at your pace, and help you feel comfortable on the Xformer.
If you don’t fall into one of these categories, we recommend starting with The Form class. It’s an accessible introduction to Pilates and the equipment, suited to a variety of fitness levels.
What should I expect in a class at The Studio?
Expect a well-rounded workout that’s as much about mental clarity as it is about physical strength. Pilates at The Studio is designed to help you build resilience, improve flexibility, and support overall wellness. Our instructors are here to guide you every step of the way.
What is the cancellation policy?
Life happens, and we totally understand! To keep things fair for everyone, we have a 12-hour cancellation policy for classes and a 24-hour policy for private sessions (Privates, Duets, and Semi-Privates).
If you need to cancel within 12 hours of your class, it’s considered a Late Cancellation, and one session will be deducted from your package or membership. No-shows will incur an additional $20 no-show fee, as a courtesy to those waiting to join.
Thank you for helping us make room for everyone to enjoy their time at The Studio!
I MISSED CLASS THOUGH. CAN I PLEASE HAVE MY CLASS BACK THIS ONE TIME?
We totally get it—things come up! Our Late Cancel policy isn’t about punishing anyone (we don’t believe in that kind of motivation); it’s actually how we make sure The Studio can keep serving you long-term.
With limited spaces in each class, every reservation means another spot isn’t available for someone else. When a last-minute change happens (and trust us, we know it happens to everyone), we have to hold to this policy so we can keep things fair for the whole community.
Of course, you’re always welcome to ask, but we do view all clients equally here, so we keep this boundary consistent. Thanks for understanding and helping us create a space everyone can enjoy!
CAN I GET AN EXTENSION ON MY EXPIRATION DATE?
We get this question a lot! Our class packages come with built-in flexibility—valid for up to a year—to make sure you have plenty of time to enjoy your classes. Because expiration timelines are part of our pricing structure, they’re set at the time of purchase and can’t be extended. Please note, promo packages will come w/ a shorter window, which is listed before you purchase!
Thanks for understanding, and we can’t wait to see you in class!
How often should I practice at The Studio?
We’re all about balance! To get the most from your workouts and help prevent injury, we recommend keeping it to 3-5 Sculpt classes per week. Giving your body time to rest between intense sessions is key to seeing results.
If you’re looking to spend even more time with us (and we’d love that!), we designed The Form, The Flow, and The Stretch as perfect options for days when your body craves something gentler, slower, and more restorative.
What should I expect in a class at The Studio?

Are classes safe during pregnancy or for injury recovery?
Yes! Pilates is an excellent option for pre- and postnatal fitness, as well as injury prevention and recovery. Many physical therapists recommend Pilates for its low-impact, supportive benefits. We also offer specialized classes, like The Balance, that focus on pelvic health and support for every stage of life.
How does the waitlist work?
If a class is full, you can join the waitlist! If you’re moved off the waitlist and into the class, you’ll get an email notification at least 1 hour before the class starts. To make sure you’re in the loop, be sure to “opt-in” for email notifications in your profile and check your junk mailbox, just in case! You can also confirm your spot by checking the The Studio App > Schedule > and looking for “Waitlist” in the bottom corner of your reservation. If it doesn’t say “Waitlist,” congrats—you’re in!
A couple things to keep in mind:
Class Credits: Our system doesn’t prevent waitlisting if you’re out of sessions, so joining may mean exceeding your monthly class limit and incurring an extra charge.
Commitment: Joining the waitlist means you’re ready to attend if a spot opens! If you’re moved into class but can’t make it within the 12-hour cancellation window, it will count as a late cancellation.
Why isn’t my monthly membership working?
Your membership has two important dates: the activation date (when your first class is booked) and the bill date. If you’re having trouble booking classes, it’s likely because your bookings weren’t made consecutively, which can throw off your schedule.
No worries—we can help get you reset so you don’t lose any spots and can snag all the classes you have your eye on! Just send us an email at thestudiomodernpilates@gmail.com, and we’ll take care of it.
Can I give a friend one of my class credits?
We love that you want to share The Studio experience with friends! While class credits are non-transferable (so you can enjoy your package fully and personally), there are still ways to treat someone to a session. We offer both physical and digital gift cards, or, if you'd like something less formal, we can use your card on file—with your approval—to purchase a class for them. Just email us at thestudiomodernpilates@gmail.com to set it up! 💝
Why is Pilates considered more than just a workout?
At The Studio, Pilates is more than movement—it’s a practice of mind-body connection. With benefits like reduced stress, improved mental clarity, and injury prevention, Pilates supports you both physically and mentally, helping you thrive on and off the mat.
